MECHANICAL TECHNICAL SPECIALIST

Location: On-site – Troy, MI
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time

EXPERIENCE

  • Ten years+ experience in mechanical component design and release responsibilities for automotive applications.
  • Experience in defense or military vehicle programs is highly preferred.
  • Expert technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles in product design and development.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials, including material compatibility.
  • Knowledge of automotive industry’s best practices for the design of electro-mechanical components and systems, design guidelines, familiarity with design verification plans and reports, and failure mode and effect analysis.
  • Expert knowledge of hybrid- and electric-vehicle operation, functionality, testing, performance, and technology.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with CAD systems such as SolidWorks and CATIA V5.
  • Good understanding of reliability and test methods.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and release EV, HEV, and Renewable Energy systems including advanced batteries and high-voltage distribution systems.
  • Also open to candidates with strong backgrounds in automotive structural design and CAE analysis.
  • Prepare technical reports, flowcharts, diagrams, schematics, and drawings to illustrate design concepts.
  • Plan and support FMEA, DVP&R/PVP&R (Design Verification Plan and Report / Production Verification Plan and Report), including component and system testing and troubleshooting of issues related to HEV & EV systems.
  • Support validation testing with internal and external laboratories, testing facilities, or suppliers.
  • Support thermal system design for HEV & EV systems.
  • Support structural analysis to comply with specifications and functional objectives.
  • Support control system design for HEV and EV systems.
  • Support other engineering groups to design, develop, implement and test hardware, review designs, and resolve issues associated with overall electric and hybrid-electric vehicle technology systems, and thermal management systems.
  • Work closely with customers and suppliers to ensure all system requirements are met.
  • Act as a mentor to junior engineers.
  • Review and sign off CAD data and drawings as required.
