The Opportunity:
Work on exciting prototype projects from concept to completion.
Apply your expertise in welding, machining, or fabrication to create innovative solutions for complex problems.
Collaborate directly with design engineers, offering your technical insights as a subject matter expert.
Contribute to a team that values hands-on problem-solving and technical skill.
Responsibilities:
Fabricate, assemble, and integrate mechanical components and subsystems for prototype development.
Perform complex setups and operations on a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including vertical mills, lathes,
and drill presses.
Execute precision welding using MIG, TIG, and other processes on a variety of materials including steel, aluminum, and
stainless steel.
Prepare materials for welding by cutting, grinding, and cleaning surfaces to ensure strong, clean welds.
Inspect welds to ensure they meet quality standards and project specifications.
Determine the most effective fabrication and joining methods based on project requirements.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documents, including welding symbols.
Maintain all shop equipment, including welding machines, to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
Collaborate with engineers and designers to provide feedback on manufacturability and suggest design improvements.
Document build processes and maintain accurate records of work performed.
Qualifications:
Required:
Active SECRET DOD security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment.
Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in one or more welding processes (e.g., MIG, TIG).
Strong understanding of welding principles, techniques, and safety standards.
Proficiency with manual machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, drill presses).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and welding symbols.
Experience with precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
Knowledge of various materials and their properties (e.g., metals, plastics).
Desired:
Relevant welding certifications (e.g., AWS D1.1, AWS D17.1).
Experience with 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC machines.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam).
Experience with SolidWorks.
