Description:

Overview:
Element has an opportunity for a Mechanical Testing Technician to join our growing team. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a Global TIC business. Responsibilities include conducting a wide range of mechanical testing of metal materials and providing technical assistance to customers, with focus on quality, standardization, and continuous improvement. This position will work closely with the department manager in facilitating the preparation of test specimens and testing in order to meet customer turn time and requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical testing and specimen conditioning (HT) in accordance with company goals, quality system, and test procedures/methods. Mainly performing destructive tensile, charpy impact and fastener testing
  • Use calibrated hand tools such as micrometer, caliper, compass, and ruler to take measurements and record them into the test records
  • Ensure that all equipment (standards) used for performing tests are calibrated prior to use. Record and maintain maintenance history of the lab equipment
  • Communicate any issues (safety, product flow, equipment, etc.) to management and mechanical test team members
  • Perform all work using the job safety requirements and proper PPE
  • Interpret specifications/standards to ensure correct application to testing
  • Review Mechanical test results for accuracy, completeness, and consistency to specification requirements
  • Participate in proficiency/round robin testing and quality audits
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S and Operational Excellence

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Experience in Materials testing is a plus. Must be able to interpret testing procedures and customer requirements from written standard, procedures and schematics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Well developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect
  • Hands-on job
  • Sound mechanical bias
  • Self motivated Technician with the ability to multi task, organise and work under the pressure of a busy commercial mechanical test laboratory
  • A team player attitude
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Frequency of required physical force: Occasional (moderate)
  • Lifting requirements: lifting <20 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. sporadically
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically using safe technique with a partner
  • Work is performed indoors
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus
