Description

The post of Mechanical Technician has responsibility for performing repairs, installation, machining and service duties as required, across our 2 sites in Flimby and Cleator Moor, as well as off-site.

CRITERIA SKILLS

(Competence and Aptitudes)

  • Excellent practical skills and demonstrable experience of safe ways of working.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to manage systems that would underpin safe and efficient workshop operations.
  • Track record of delivering projects within agreed timescales.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to undertake complex work in a planned and systematic manner.
  • Excellent timekeepers

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

  • Experience gained in the industry to ensure full compliance and adherence to all H&S issues
  • Time served Mechanical Technician/ Fitter.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Machining skills preferred- Lathe and Milling (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Hydraulics/ Pneumatics (desirable).
  • Basic electrical circuit knowledge (desirable).

QUALIFICATIONS (Educational and Vocational)

  • NVQ 3 or ONC in mechanical engineering as a minimum. HNC Preferred.
  • Up to date Telehandler ticket (desirable).
  • Workplace Health and Safety Certificates (desirable).
Responsibilities
  • Investigate the nature of equipment failures and subsequently carry out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Carry out the installations, refurbishment and commissioning of mechanical equipment to specification and on time.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings of various equipment to ensure correct tolerance and fits are maintained, for efficient operations.
  • Inspect, repair, install and test mechanical equipment in order to ensure that mandatory legislative requirements are met.
  • Maintain tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Carry out quality control inspections on the condition of the work carried out on and off site.
  • Report any complications which may affect the delivery of the installation on time to your line manager
  • Maintain accurate records relevant to operational activity.
  • Carry out scheduled planned maintenance work on company vehicles and buildings.
  • Undertake any other duties as consistent with the post.
