About Sorcerer Sorcerer is deploying a global network of persistent airborne sensors to fuel weather forecasting. Our high-altitude balloons collect 1000x more data than existing systems and are already used daily by meteorologists to track extreme weather across the US and Central America. We are a well-funded early-stage Y Combinator backed startup based in San Francisco, CA. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage, where you have an outsized impact across the company every day. About the role As a Mechatronics Engineer at Sorcerer you'll be responsible for developing flight and ground systems for our high altitude vehicles. Responsibilities Work on end-to-end design and manufacturing of PCBAs in the system Rapid prototyping, component selection, schematic capture, bring-up, debugging and hardware bug tracking Own hardware and software from concept through design to in-flight operation Required Skill & Experience Extensive ECAD experience (we use Altium Designer) Component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout Experience with common digital protocols including I2C, SPI, USB, etc. MCAD experience such at OnShape, Fusion, Siemens NX, etc. Experience programming for microcontrollers (bare-metal programming, RTOS, communication protocols) Ideal Candidates Have designed for space or near-space environments Have designed something manufactured at-scale - DFM principles are second nature Have experience designing complex interdependent systems Have experience working in startups and small independent teams Succeed with a high level of autonomy Location This is an in-office role at our HQ in SoMa, San Francisco Benefits 401k Unlimited PTO 100% Health, Dental, Vision Company paid life insurance All relocation costs covered (if applicable) Catered lunch every day Fully-stocked office kitchen Commute/parking stipend OR monthly proximity benefit if you relocate to within 30m walk of the office Hiring exceptional people is our top priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have unusual backgrounds.
