Mechatronics Student Assistant - Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering  The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME), part of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southern Denmark, offers a part-time position (10 hrs pr week)  (15.06.2026 – 31.12.2026) as a Student Assistant within the Mechatronics group. The position is closely connected to laboratory management, purchasing and order processing as well as assisting in lab development projects. The Mechatronics and Electronics labs are two laboratories used primarily by students, working both on individual projects and during laboratory exercises as part of coursework. The labs are well equipped, and the role of the student assistant is to contribute to the day-to-day running of the lab, ensuring that necessary equipment and components are in stock and in well-working condition. In addition there are opportunities to assist other students in their projects, providing access and training in tools and equipment. The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is located in the inspiring Alsion building in Sønderborg, which hosts both academic and industrial actors, fostering strong collaboration between research and industry. The Mechatronics and Electronics Labs play a central role in enabling experimental validation, prototyping, and system integration within ongoing teaching and semester projects. Assignments of the Student Helper at IME include: * Support lab management in terms of restocking component repositories accessed by the laboratory users * Keep a continued overview of stock inventory, using the knowledge of project themes to predict components which will be required in large volume and prepare order lists in order to ensure parts are ready on time * Unpack, sort and refill component stock, both for warehousing purposes and for ensuring that all components which should be available for students are well stocked * Support other students in getting access to specialized tools, more expensive components and training to use these tools and components in a safe and constructive manner The following qualifications and skills are strong assets * Familiarity with the everyday use of the labs, in terms of timing of usage, teaching and other projects * Experience with electronics component types and families, their uses and limitations * Strong capability in PCB design, electronics prototyping and troubleshooting * Practical lab/research experience, including setup, testing, and iterative development of experimental systems * Solid foundation in electronics engineering, general understanding of electrical and software domains * Ability to work across disciplines and integrate components into functional system * Experience in soldering, desoldering and mounting various connector types *   For further information about the position and the application procedure, please contact:   Stefan Nørgaard Johansen Engineer tel. +45 6550 2497 e-mail: stefnj@sdu.dk Last day to submit application is May 25th 2026 kl. 23:59   Please note, the selected candidate as Student Assistant or Academic Supervisor must be enrolled as student at SDU.   Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and SUL (National Union for Student Teachers in Government Service).     In case you have not yet had an examination at SDU, the enrollment confirmation instead of the exam transcript must be annexed your application.   Application must include cover letter, CV and transcript of grades. Responsibilities
The student assistant will manage laboratory inventory, handle purchasing and restocking of components, and ensure equipment is in working condition. Additionally, they will provide technical support and safety training to other students using the Mechatronics and Electronics labs.
