Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 94,000 members and chapters in all 50 states. DSA is a big tent, multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democratic socialism. * Support the Comms Director and Comms co-chairs in carrying out the organization’s national external media strategy * Create and execute Comms trainings for DSA and YDSA chapters across the country  * Provide other ongoing external comms resources to chapters and committees including assistance with media inquiries, rapid response support and media prep * Create or coordinate volunteers in creating video content to increase DSA’s reach on video platforms * Create or coordinate volunteers in creating graphic design for social media, campaigns, events, etc. as well as new merch and printed materials * Post approved social media posts, statements, and other external messaging as requested by DSA National leaders * Carry out rapid-response comms strategies as needed for external crises affecting the organization * Coordinate external media for large national events by inviting journalists and creators, coordinating messaging, and prepping spokespeople * Support the comms team in copy-editing, coding, and sending of national emails * Provide logistical support for national events, including in-person events and mass calls * Perform other duties which may arise based on the needs of the organization Qualifications * Preferred 3 years in a position in comms, preferably with a left organization or union and on a national level * Demonstrated knowledge, experience and self-motivation working on a comprehensive comms strategy with staff and volunteers or members * Ability to work effectively with member leaders from varying political viewpoints underneath DSA’s big tent * Creativity to produce exciting and interesting content and ability to propose thoughtful and unique communication strategies and projects to national leadership   * Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a non-traditional leadership structure, adapting to changing political conditions and organizational needs * High level of accountability, responsibility, and dependability * Experience writing and pitching media advisories and press releases  * Ability to travel on occasion * Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action, and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of DSA * Multilingual candidates encouraged * Experience working in a membership-led organization and/or with member leaders that direct the work (preferred) Reports to: Communications Director Work Schedule: Full-time  Location: Remote Salary: $65,500 Benefits: Union position. We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter.
