The role focuses on generating positive and innovative news, clinical advances and research findings taking place at Emory Healthcare, along with developing inspiring stories from the patient perspective. The ideal candidate has strong experience working in the media/broadcast journalism and in media relations/public relations/communications or another similar role. Previous hospital or health care communications experience a plus. RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership and Management: Plan, coordinate, pitch and manage comprehensive local, regional and national media coverage and media relations activities for our service lines, hospitals and clinics. Develop and drive proactive media campaigns that align with Emory Healthcare’s strategic goals and values. Maintain in-depth knowledge of the health care system and its service lines, and integrate insights into strategic planning around institutional priorities, which include excellence in patient care, research breakthroughs and innovation. Tactical Responsibilities: Cultivate strong working relationships with local, regional and national news media to promote positive storytelling and messaging to targeted audiences. Provide media training to physicians, staff and leaders to instill confidence in on-camera presence for interviews and other speaking engagements. Write, edit and distribute press releases, pitches, media advisories and other content to media. Collaborate with in-house multimedia video and photography team to advance storytelling and support high-priority events and strategic initiatives. Operational Excellence: Coordinate and supervise on-site media and production company shoots—including interviews, b-roll and photography—to ensure minimal disruption to clinical activities. Frequently monitor local, regional and national news media content, news cycles and health care trends. Maintain familiarity with various media outlets locally, regionally and nationally to keep abreast of trends and market data. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with marketing, internal communications and other departments to ensure that media relations plans support the key objectives in growing business, and that content is consistent with the overall Emory Healthcare brand, while meeting the strategic objectives of the organization. Maintain open and effective communication with all stakeholders, both internally and externally. Counsel senior leaders/management teams regarding impacts of working with the media, and benefits of storytelling. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelors degree in a marketing/communications discipline, such as journalism, mass communications, English, public relations, marketing, political science or a related field. Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience working in journalism, communications, marketing, media relations, public relations or crisis management. Demonstrated success in managing and coordinating news media coverage and the implementation of public/media relations campaigns. Experience should include media interview skills, story development, pitching, news writing and overall content creation. Candidate must have a strong understanding of how news media organizations operate. Preferred Experience: The ideal candidate has strong experience working in the media/broadcast journalism and in media relations/public relations/communications or another similar role.
