We provide a comprehensive range of ophthalmic services, including cataract surgery, glaucoma management, macular degeneration treatment, laser treatments, oculoplastic surgery, squint services and general ophthalmology, to both NHS and private patients.

Due to continued growth and service expansion, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant / Ophthalmic Assistant to join our clinical team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about patient care and looking to develop specialist skills within ophthalmology. Previous ophthalmic experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

The Role

Working alongside our multidisciplinary clinical team, you will support the delivery of high-quality patient care across both out-patient clinics and operating theatres.

The successful candidate will work primarily from our Southport Hospital and Ormskirk Clinic and will play an important role in ensuring patients receive a safe, professional, and positive experience throughout their treatment journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operation of ophthalmology clinics at both our Southport and Ormskirk sites.
  • Perform and record a range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Assist in the delivery of pre-operative and post-operative clinics.
  • Prepare and set up clinic rooms, treatment rooms, theatre, and equipment for patient consultations and procedures.
  • Ensure clinical areas are clean, organised and ready for use.
  • Support consultants and clinicians during patient assessments and treatments.
  • Act as a theatre runner and patient escort when required.
  • Assist with patient flow throughout the clinic and hospital environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with all clinical governance, infection prevention and health and safety requirements.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and passionate about delivering excellent patient care.
  • Professional, reliable, and approachable.
  • Organised and able to manage a varied workload.
  • A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable in their approach to work.
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively.
  • Eager to learn and develop new skills.

Essential Requirements

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to travel regularly between our Southport and Ormskirk sites.
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding patient care.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience within ophthalmology, optometry or a surgical setting.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic testing.

Please note: Full training will be provided for candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, aptitude, and commitment.

Working Pattern

This role forms part of our extended service provision and will include evening and weekend working.

The initial working pattern will be 37.5 hours per week:

Tuesday to Saturday

Working hours may vary in line with service requirements and business needs.
