Description 7am- 5:30pm/ PRN / At least 24 hours a month We are seeking a capable Medical Assisant Apprentice/ MA who has acquired broad experience in caring for patients, and has developed a sound understanding about the care of a particular patient population. The Medical Assistant - Apprentice works under the direction of a Medical Assistant mentor for on- the-job training to provide basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients care, comfort, and safety. The Medical Assistant - Apprentice performs in a manner consistent Emory Healthcare's mission, policies, and initiatives while always maintaining patient confidentiality. The Apprentice will always function under the direct supervision of the Certified Medical Assistant Engages in opportunities presented to learn tasks related to the medical assistant role Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam room aseptic, neat and supplied Prepares patients for exams and assists provider with exams/tests/procedures as needed Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate. Ensures that charges are submitted in a timely manner. Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider. Regular attendance is required to carry out the essential functions of the position Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions Minimum Qualification High School diploma or equivalent Active enrollment and good standing in a CAAHEP Accredited Program with pending graduation and passing of certification exam within 6 months of hire required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA)certification is required at hire. Within 60 days from graduation of the MA program, certification as one of the following is required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcare Association (NHA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). Graduate of a vocational technical Health Unit Coordinator Program, Medical Office Specialist, or Medical Secretary preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Keyboard, computer, and telephone proficiency.
