POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant works with the Physician and other members of the primary or specialty care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient-related duties. The Medical Assistant also works to fulfill a variety of patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow within the department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Greets patients on the phone and in person Places patients in the exam rooms Takes vital signs and perform ancillary tests appropriate to skill level Assists and sets up for providers during examination, treatment, and procedures Keeps accurate patient files Applies dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by provider Ensures rooms are stocked with necessary supplies Maintains a sanitized and safe working environment Maintains HIPAA Coordination of services between multiple practices demonstrable by excellent communication skills Performs other medical assistant duties as necessary Requirements Required: 1+ years medical assistant experience High School Diploma or equivalent Current American Heart Association CPR Certification Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies Ability to adapt to advancement and changing technology Ability to show attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of staff Basic typing skills to input various data into Information systems Experience in an outpatient practice Able to coordinate patient services, assist patients with office, medications and procedure authorizations and explain process to patients Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office Ability to prioritize work efficiently Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice, which includes increasing work hours as needed to cover the practice needs Ability to work in a fast-paced setting Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time. or any combination of academic education and professional training and development along with applied work experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
