Description General Description of the Position: The Medical Assistant performs duties and tasks assigned by the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Site Manager. Duties include entering documentation into the medical record for the PMHNP. The Medical Assistant will provide previewing services for the PMHNP, including taking blood pressure and weight, reviewing current concerns or changes in health status or medication. Documentation of client data is required. The Medical Assistant will conduct UA’s as directed, complete necessary paperwork and documentation associated with UA testing. The Medical Assistant will phone pharmacies and complete refills as directed by PMHNP, as well as communicating information to clients as requested. The Medical assistant will conduct front desk reception duties on an “as needed” basis, answer phones for the general office and in particular for the PMHNP. Messages will be documented and provided to the PMHNP promptly. The Medical Assistant may be requested to conduct reminder calls to clients. The Medical Assistant will fax and receive/process faxes for the PMHNP. Pre authorizations for prescriptions will be completed as requested by the PMHNP. Essential Job Functions: Warmly greet clients and provide previewing services, taking blood pressure, weight, and making inquiries about changes in health status and/or medication Create documentation for PMHNP and enter data as requested Receive faxes and fax for PMHNP Complete refills and pre authorizations as directed by PMHNP Perform UA’s as requested, and complete documentation of such as needed Provide receptionist duties on an “as needed basis” for general staff Answer phone for PMHNP, take messages and deliver promptly to PMHNP Communicate with clients, pharmacies, health care facilities and other staff as requested by PMHNP Order lab tests, scan documentation into charts as requested by PMHNP Perform reminder calls as requested Maintain confidentiality of all client information Be available to meet needs of PMHNP in performance of her duties Inventories medication samples, documents medication errors and completes incident reports as requested Other duties as assigned Attendance Requirements: Work schedules for employees vary throughout the agency. Supervisors will advise employees of their individual work schedules. Staffing needs, operational demands, and service specific protocol may necessitate variations in starting and ending times, as well as variations in the total hours and location(s) that may be scheduled each day and week. Supervisors have the ability, responsibility and authority to adjust employee work schedules based upon a variety of issues pertaining to the delivery of services. The scheduling of staff meetings, trainings, and other meetings may necessitate variations in employee work schedules. Scheduling is the responsibility of the employer and will be based on the needs of the participants served by this agency. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Familiar with psychiatric care, signs and symptoms of mental illness Compassion and non judgmental attitude, respectful of clients and staff Knowledgeable and skilled in electronic medical record systems Able to multitask and prioritize competing employment demands Familiar with and skilled in utilizing office equipment Knowledgeable and skilled in taking blood pressures, weights Familiar with psychiatric medications and general office protocol Ability to develop and follow a treatment plan with participants that is outcome based, recovery focused and participant/family driven Ability to work with diverse cultures, individual and family differences Strong oral and written communication skills Have a clear Child Protective Service and Criminal Background Check Have valid Montana Driver’s License and able to utilize vehicle for work purposes, including transport of clients on occasion Education/Experience: Certification as a Medical Assistant and requisite education Preferred experience in psychiatric care
