Description
Overview Responsible for back office clinical procedures. Also assists Physicians and Nurses with medical examination of patients. Responsibilities Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient in regard to treatment as necessary. Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure and enters into EHR. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. Reviews intake forms with the MD/NP/PA when needed to determine what services best suit the patient. Performs phone triage with supervision of LPN/RN, completes team tasks, paperwork and faxes as needed. Prepares patient charts including sourcing information from the referring provider and other EHR systems. Manages specimens that are being picked up and drop off. Chaperones when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures (such as Pap Smears). Maintains a clean and sterile environment in the examination rooms and triage area. Ensuring all rooms are stocked with medical supplies, as well as, clean and sterilized instruments. Dispose of contaminated supplies and medical instruments. Inventories and reorders supplies as needed. Prepare education packets. Check EMR tasks daily and document patient’s chart. Complete drug refills as directed. Organizes and manages medicine closet. Change wound dressings. Assists with scheduling conflicts. Explain treatments and procedures to patients Qualifications successful completion of a Medical Assistant program. Equivalent military training will be accepted. Must have certification (CMA or RMA) or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years. Previous medical office experience with relevant functions in a doctor’s office preferred. Must have some working knowledge of computers. Customer service-oriented individual is required.
