Medical Assistant Overview Family Centers is seeking a caring, motivated, and well-organized certified Medical Assistant (MA) to join the team at Family Centers. Family Centers Health Care, a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center), provides primary healthcare, dental, and mental health services to children and adults living in Greenwich and Stamford with an emphasis on the special population living in or near public housing.   The Role The primary purpose of the Medical Assistant is to assist the primary care providers and nurses in delivering patient care. This role involves a combination of clinical, administrative, environment and organizational responsibilities to ensure a smooth workflow and the well-being of patients. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Specific responsibilities include: * Provide support to primary care providers during routine medical examinations and procedures, ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service to patients and their family members. * Collect and document patient medical history, vital signs, medication list, and pertinent information, ensuring the maintenance of precise and current patient records through electronic health record (EHR) systems. * Provide patient education, while advocating for patient needs and maintaining effective communication with the healthcare team.  * Collect and process point-of-care tests, laboratory specimens, and perform basic medical tests, such as EKGs and vision screenings. Maintains laboratory logs for all test performed at the clinic. Point of Care Waived lab tests include, but are not limited to, the following: venipunctures, finger-sticks, pregnancy tests, urine dip sticks, electrocardiograms, pap smears, Hep C screening, HIV screening, COVID screening, preparation of routine cultures.  * Administer vaccines as directed by primary care providers (only applicable to trained and approved certified MAs). * Handle phone calls, manage emails, and facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers. Additionally, follow up with patients regarding test results, referrals, and other healthcare instructions. * Offer prompt attention to both urgent and non-urgent patient issues, supported by observations and feedback from the team and patients served. * Assist primary care providers with phone calls to pharmacists and coordinating referral consultations and external tests, such as x-rays, as documented in the medical record. * Assist with scheduling and managing patient appointments as needed. * Ensure the proper functioning of equipment and instruments, maintain and order medical supplies, and contribute to the recording of vaccine inventory at appropriate temperatures.  * Perform daily tasks such as setting up, stocking, labeling, and cleaning all clinical areas and equipment, including the washing and sterilization of instruments, and document these activities accordingly. * Participate in quality assurance by monitoring service, patient care, and operational efficiency indicators. Act and solve problems based on feedback and documentation reviews from the healthcare team.  * Sustain a neat and well-organized workspace, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. Follow healthcare regulations, including compliance with HIPAA, CDC, and Joint Commission guidelines. * Engage in all offered training, consultations and supervisions made available. * Respect patient/client autonomy and dignity, demonstrated through observation, documentation, and feedback from staff and customers. Demonstrates expertise in patient/client testing, as observed and confirmed by feedback from staff. * Fully and professionally respond to and implement directives and advice offered by all supervisory and training personnel, as well as professionally offered feedback from coworkers.  * Perform other duties as assigned.    Requirements * High School Diploma or GED Certificate  * Certification as Medical Assistant * Minimum of one (1) year related experience and/or training * Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment * Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic pharmacology * Knowledge of laboratory and other procedures performed in an outpatient setting * Technical experience with phlebotomy and venipuncture is a plus * Excellent emotional coping skills, adequate to confront difficult emotional situations and emotional responses of others * Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed the Customer Service Standards of Family Centers Inc. * Bilingual, especially Spanish/English, and/or bicultural strongly preferred * Ability to work on-site 5:00pm – 8:00pm on Tuesday and Thursdays * Demonstrated ability to utilize computer technology and to willingness to develop and adapt to the evolving technological requirements of modern medical health center practices required   Physical Requirements * Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours a day * Must be able to bend without restrictions * Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. * Must have excellent hand/eye coordination Compensation     $48,000 - $55,000 annually Benefits and Perks At Family Centers, we believe in taking care of our compassionate staff who care for our community.
