JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for managing phone calls and voicemails from patients seeking medical information or attention. Duties include addressing clinical inquiries, explaining and documenting laboratory results, processing prescription refills, clarifying procedures and treatments, initiating prior authorizations (PA), and scheduling appointments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Preferably three years of experience in a medical practice setting. EMR experience. Excellent customer service, excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task and set and meet priorities required.
  • Must be familiar and knowledgeable with computers. Able to provide co-workers, patients, doctors, and management with responses in a positive, supportive and cooperative manner.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Return all phone calls (IN A TIMELY MANNER) and make sure that all are documented in the patient chart.
  • Address patient clinical questions.
  • Evaluate new complaints via phone and triage to emergent, urgent, or routine appointments with the support of the provider.
  • Prepare and send consultation letters with results or recommendations to referring physicians.
  • Retrieve laboratory results not yet in the patient’s records.
  • Explain laboratory and pathology results per providers instructions.
  • Process prescription refill requests.
  • Initiate prior authorizations.
  • Schedule appointments and urgent visits as necessary.
  • Room patients including obtain vital signs, review patient’s history, medications, and update patient’s history.
  • Administer subcutaneous or intra-muscular injections and vaccines.
  • Document pertinent health information in EMR system.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Adhere to office policies and safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.Must be willing to travel to Euless office.
