Description Job Summary: Under the direction of an RN/LPN or practitioner perform basic patient care activities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist and work one-on-one with multiple physicians and mid-levels in two different locations “Artesia and Carlsbad”. Must be able to travel and work in Artesia and Carlsbad. Must be willing to assist in training new employees Escort patients from the lobby to the exam room or the treatment room as appropriate. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by the physician. Records patient data before each physician visit, including, but not limited to any new problems, symptoms, or follow-up Conducts patients’ assessments and obtains pertinent medical information Assist physicians with exams and procedures as required (i.e. set-up injections, removal of sutures, staples, casting, bracing) Prepares and stocks exam room, orders supplies as needed Maintains all exam room disinfection protocols Telephones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians. Schedule patient tests procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions, and provide any follow-up as needed. Ensures all paperwork is complete and signed by the physician for reauthorizations and pre-certifications as needed. Obtains new patient records and previous test results, (x-rays, etc.) Follows up on patient rescheduling with a physician. Performs appropriate procedures in the cast room. Placement and removal of casts, splints, and dressing according to protocol. Review and ensure superbill for accuracy, completeness, and physician signature. Complete Worker’s compensation questionnaires, disability forms, etc. Assist with front desk phone and filing of medical records as needed. Accept temporary assignments allocated by the Office Manager. Maintain a clean work environment and restocks and supply area as needed. Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentially: HIPPA: to protect the patient and clinic Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office. Covers for the front office functions as requested. Demonstrated positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, managers, other department employees, and physicians to maximize productivity and positive employee relations. Ensure all medical records are scanned in the EMR Ensure cleanliness of office and examination rooms. Clean and store equipment. (Instrument sterilization) Maintain supply inventory and re-stock as required. Perform basic clerical duties as needed. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES: Knowledge of basic nursing and patient care. AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position. Information Management: Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with appropriate confidentiality and security. Risk Management/Quality Management/Safety: Cooperates fully in all Risk Management, Quality Management, and Safety Activities and Investigations. MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education – High school diploma or equivalent; plus specialized, short-term training in basic patient care. Work Experience – clinic setting preferred. Training – Formal nursing assistant and/or medical assistant training is required. License/Certification – Certification in Nurse Assisting or Certification in Medical Assisting preferred. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The work environment consists of daily patient contact, which may include exposure to blood or other body fluids.
Responsibilities
