Job Details Job Location: Skin Cancer Specialists - Conroe - Conroe, TX 77304 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: Not Specified Travel Percentage: Up to 25% Job Shift: Day Job Category: Health Care As a Medical Assistant/Mohs Histotech, your responsibilities involve verifying patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and documenting the purpose of visit. They prepare patients for examination, assist in procedures as appropriate and perform a variety of patient care tasks under the supervision of a licensed health care provider. Duties range widely from administrative to clinical. Also preparing for surgery, prepping patients, and assisting the surgeon through the procedures. Your duties also include restocking supplies, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, taking photos of tumors, working with histotechnology, answering patient questions, and providing wound care education. A Mohs histotech collects tissue samples, prepares a slide with proper staining technique, operates lab equipment, and maintains medical records for the patient undergoing the procedure. You must ensure you follow all OSHA and CLIA safety regulations. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Present high quality frozen sections Preparing skin specimens for Mohs surgeon which includes processing, embedding, sectioning, cutting, mapping, inking/staining skin and setting tissue with speed and efficiency Communicating effectively with Mohs surgeon, office manager and staff members Properly documenting and logging patient information Regular cleaning, sterilizing and managing supplies + equipment Following hazardous and routine chemical use, maintenance, logging and disposal requirements Following quality control and assurance measures, protocols and guidelines and successfully completing regular competency reviews Maintaining appropriate supplies and placing orders in a timely manner Maintaining patient privacy and adhering to HIPAA guidelines at all times. Managing office telephone system, including answering calls and returning messages. Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments when necessary. Informing patients on laboratory results and documenting properly within the chart. Updating and filing patient medical records and or any patient correspondence. Transmitting prescription or refill requests as directed by the provider and obtaining prescription authorizations for patient medications. Creating certified letter communication for noncompliant patients needing treatment for malignant results. All other duties as assigned Skills & Abilities: All necessary skills to perform independently and efficiently as a Mohs Technician Exceptional attendance record and punctuality Reliable transportation and ability to commute to our office locations for Mohs Surgery Regular transport, use and maintenance of microtome, supplies and other equipment Operate cryostat and H/E stainer and maintaining and managing logs, records and documentation Perform routine care, cleaning and preventative maintenance Excellent attention to detail, ability to multitask and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate. Must be a team-player and work cohesively with others. Maintain composure under pressure and are highly adaptable to change. Ability to work autonomously as dictated & make appropriate decisions. Qualifications Qualifications & Experience Required: 1+ years paid experience as a Medical Assistant 1+ years paid experience as a Mohs Technician Reliable transportation and valid Drivers License Dermatology experience is a + (not required) Ability to travel between locations if necessary. Polished presence appropriate to a medical setting. Bilingual a + (not required).
