Description POSITION SUMMARY: Pediatric Associates of Greater Salem is looking for a dynamic and team oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to provide direct patient care to pediatric clients under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Manager, or Health Care Provider. This individual must be able to provide hands on care and perform all outlined duties appropriately and within the scope of practice. The MA is the flow manager of the team including monitoring referrals and providing telephone follow up after patients have seen an outside provider. This role is a critical member of the team providing knowledge of office procedures and maintaining communication with the other members of the care team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet patients in a timely manner after check in and obtain necessary background information such as: reason for visit, vital signs, measurements, and prepare patient for physical examination by the doctor or nurse practitioner Perform procedures such as: capillary blood testing, vision and hearing screenings, specimen collection, fluoride varnish application Utilize pre-visit tools to collect patient data including current allergies and medications Maintain sufficient stock of supplies in exam rooms and in the office; order medical supplies and equipment when necessary Demonstrate basics of infection control including standard precautions Accurately document vital signs, screening outcomes and other patient information Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and laboratory areas and prepare these areas for the next patient after they have been used Monitor and track referrals to outside providers and services, follow up by phone with family necessary to ensure that the family has complied with MD/nursing recommendations Provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care to clients and families Adhere to the general policies and procedures as outlined by the practice Ability to meet the necessary physical demands of the position Maintain standards as outlined by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) Requirements OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent written and verbal communication, excellent organization Ability to work independently as well as function as part of the care team Ability to handle sensitive medical information/HIPAA compliance Working knowledge of EMR, Microsoft office and email EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or graduation equivalency degree (GED) required Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication. Ability to perform tasks involving physical activity, which may include lifting of supplies, equipment, or babies and small children; extensive bending, standing, walking or sitting may be required. Responsibilities
