POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is responsible for assisting Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses in providing care to behavioral health and addiction patients under general supervision.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Medical Assistant work experience or completion of medical assistant training program required.
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist
  • CPR certification required within 1 year of employment.
  • Previous toxicology specimen collection experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a fast paced, high volume clinic setting. Mental Health or addiction experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with a high level of initiative.
  • Solid computer skills, including experience with electronic health record and Microsoft office.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of individuals in sometimes stressful situations.
  • Ability to bring empathy and compassion to a vulnerable population while maintaining boundaries.

EDUCATION

Vocational/technical school degree.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

  • Supports patient care by facilitating CompDrug’s Specimen collection processes for urine, salvia, blood collection and breathalyzer. This includes observed urine collection as needed. Reporting suspected falsification of a specimen
  • Follows chain of custody procedures
  • Processes and assembles specimen collection
  • Provides instructions to patients on how to provide urine, breath and saliva specimens
  • Provides care and customer service to CompDrug patients in an empathic, trauma informed manner while maintaining boundaries
  • Administers diagnostic procedures within defined scope, for example blood draws, pregnancy tests, electrocardiograms
  • Escorts patients to exam room, obtain vitals, status/history update and relevant screening questions
  • Supports the maintenance of medical and toxicology supply inventory. Ensures supply areas are stocked and inventory ordered as needed.
  • Updates and maintains patient records in the electronic health record and the Central Registry
  • Completes prior authorizations in collaboration with providers
  • Answers phone calls and provides other administrative support to the medical staff
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to established privacy practices in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2
  • Maintains job knowledge by participating in required continuing educational opportunities
  • Maintains certification and continuing education
  • Regular and timely attendance
  • Other duties as assigned
