POSITION OVERVIEW: Title: Medical Assistant Reports To: Depending upon Assignment (Lead MA, Nurse) Schedule: M-F; 8am-5pm Status: Non-Exempt Summary: This position can be assigned to multiple departments including: Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health, Optometry, Health Clinics. In this role you will be a highly visible face of the organization as you greet and receive patients accompanying them throughout their visit to our facility. You will engage with patients, with providers and other staff, and utilize Electronic Health Records systems to document the visit while adhering to all mandated policies and procedures as well as best practices of patient care. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Will include but not limited to) • The Medi-Cal Assistant is responsible for greeting and receiving patients in a professional and caring manner. • The patient will be escorted to the appropriate exam or treatment room where vital signs will be obtained and documented within our EHR system. • During this initial interaction the Medi-Cal Assistant will gather the reason for the visit and document that as well as the Patient's chief complaints in the HER system. • The Medi-Cal Assistant will assist the provider throughout the encounter, ensuring the patient's needs are met and the encounter appropriately documented. • This role will include cleaning and preparing exam and treatment rooms, restocking supplies, and preparing the area for the next patient encounter. • Following protocols of utilization of room status indicators and being available for assignment of additional tasks as needed are all indicative of the fast pace of this role. • Additionally, this role has substantial annual training requirements that must be kept abreast of. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Pattern I: High School Graduate or GED and a CACMA certification along with one (1) year of experience working in a Medi-Cal facility as a Medi-Cal Assistant. Or Pattern II: High School Graduate or GED and verifiable training as a Medi-Cal Assistant. A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a Medi-Cal facility as a Medi-Cal Assistant. Preferred Qualifications: Experience utilizing Electronic Health Records systems Experience utilizing the Microsoft Suite of Applications Experience working with Native American population in a healthcare setting 2+ years preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs, step-stools, etc.; stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer and phones; hearing, talking, and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers; subject to outside environmental conditions of heat and cold; and walking on uneven ground. The position requires the ability to safely operate and drive a motor vehicle.
