Working Under the direction of physician/ provider. The MA is responsible to assist in the examination and treatment of patients delivering high quality care and services, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or equivalency * Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program Required QUALIFICATIONS * One year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting preferred * Current, nationally recognized Medical assistant Certification or Registration required or obtained within 90 days of employment * Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of employment * Basic computer literacy required * Knowledge of medical terminology required * Good communication and customer service skills required * Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines * Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures * Knowledge of HIPAA laws and ability to adhere to confidentiality policies * Knowledge of current medical assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drugs * Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures * Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment * Excellent time management skills * Working knowledge of patient management software and basic Microsoft office products. EPIC Preferred * Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions * Ability to interpret and read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Excellent telephone and customer service skills * Skills to implement good safety practices that prevent exposure to known workplace hazards and the necessary action needed when exposed * Skill in applying and modifying principles, methods and techniques of a medical assistant to provide ongoing patient care * Strong attention to detail skills PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods * May include performing repetitive tasks * May include working with challenging patients and clients * May include lifting up to 25 pounds * Ability to use logic reasoning for simple and complex problem solving * Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids UNLV Health will provide equal opportunity employment to all employees and applicants for employment.
