As a Medical Assistant with VOAMASS, you’ll have a dynamic and critical role as an essential member of the VOAMASS integrated services care team and nursing team. The Medical Assistant works in close coordination with Registered Nurses, PMHNPs, the Medical Director, and program leadership. This role oversees day-to-day medication management practices across assigned residential recovery programs to ensure that individuals receive safe, effective, and person-centered medication support throughout their treatment journey. Some of your critical responsibilities: Ensure the medication room is clean, organized, secure, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment is functioning in accordance with VOAMASS and BSAS standards. Complete medication documentation for all new and updated medications into the EHR and required forms upon admission or medication changes, and communicate updates promptly to RNs, clinicians, and integrated care team members. Complete medication sheets monthly and after medication changes. Assist residents in safely packing their medications, including preparing pill boxes for medication self-administration, for passes, appointments, or discharges, ensuring accuracy, proper labeling, and adherence to medication protocols. Support residents in contacting prescribers, attending medication management appointments, obtaining timely pharmacy refills, and understanding their medication regimen. Provide person-centered education and coaching to promote safe, consistent, and informed self-administration of medications. Observe and document self-administration by monitoring residents during medication times, document adherence, and provide education to reinforce safe practices and understanding of their medications. Conduct medication reconciliations daily to ensure correct inventories and counts, identify trends or concerns, and investigate discrepancies. Report issues to supervisors and follow up on corrective actions. Track, identify and report safety concerns related to misuse, diversion, non-adherence, medication events, or errors to appropriate staff in a timely and accurate manner. Provide program support when not on medications, assist with general program duties, including wellness checks, resident engagement, and overall program operations Complete medication discontinuation and destroy medications in compliance with VOAMASS policy and regulatory requirements. Complete other responsibilities assigned by supervisors to support integrated care, program operations, and VOAMASS's mission. The Medical Assistant role is about making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. You’ll bring the following qualifications: Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a certified Medical Assistant credential from an accredited program. A minimum of one to two years of experience in a healthcare or human services setting is preferred, particularly supporting individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, dual diagnoses, or co-occurring disorders. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong patient-centered communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow structured clinical workflows, including supporting medication reconciliation, preventive care activities, and integrated care coordination.
