Job Details Job Location: Anchorage - ANCHORAGE, AK 99508 JOB TITLE: Certified Medical Coding Specialist DEPARTMENT: Business Office LOCATION: Anchorage, AK STATUS: Full-Time, On-Site CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) **SIGN ON BONUS: $5,000 (2yr commitment) ** About the Role Alaska Heart & Vascular Institute (AHVI) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist (CPC) to join our in-office Business Office team in Anchorage. This role is ideal for a coding professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is looking to deepen their expertise in cardiology coding across outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory settings. As part of a highly knowledgeable team of coders, billers, and clinical professionals, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. PAY RANGE: $25-36/HR dependent upon experience and education. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Business Office Manager. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None Key Responsibilities Review provider documentation and assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers. Submit clean claims for all billable services. Investigate and resolve coding issues in collaboration with billing, coding, and clinical teams. Monitor payer guidelines and ensure adherence to current coding and documentation standards. Prepare and submit appeals related to medical necessity or coding denials. Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality. Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication, and a patient-focused approach when interacting with staff, providers, and external partners. Qualifications REQUIRED Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years of experience in a medical office with an emphasis on medical coding. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and payer guidelines. Understanding of medical necessity, compliance standards, and documentation workflows. High attention to detail; strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a high-volume environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
