POSITION CAN BE REMOTE BUT CANDIDATE MUST BE ABLE TO WORK OUT OF CORPORATE OFFICE IN HENRICO, VA, AS NEEDED.

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Medical Coding Specialist to be responsible for the complete, accurate and compliant medical coding (ICD-10) of patient charts. This role is critical in ensuring the highest level of specificity on diagnosis codes, without conflicts, including identifying and requesting missing information to allow the submission of codes for reimbursement.

*QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • At least 3 years experience as medical coder with ICD-10
  • Certified Professional Coder certification is a plus
  • Clinical accreditation, such as a medical assistant, is a plus
  • Thorough, detail-oriented, with a focus on delivering accurate and quality output
  • Organized and ability to follow-through to completion
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
    Work Schedule: Part-time, schedule to be defined based on mutual agreement
    Compensation: Starts at $23/hour commensurate with experience and certification/credentials
Responsibilities
  • Reviewing patient charts and available tools PRIOR to visit to prep charts to prompt Providers during their encounter with Patient
  • Timely facilitation of appropriate medical records request, receipt, and load into patient charts to support Provider diagnosing
  • Ensuring codes POST visit are used correctly, sequenced appropriately, and compliant as per government and insurance regulations, medical coding guidelines and policies
  • Following up and clarifying any medical record information or diagnosis that is not clear to other Providers and other staff
  • Using available reports and other information to review coding gaps and opportunities and their closure
