JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Coordinator is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) who oversees all medical and health-related services at Catholic Charities IEC Children’s Home, serving both the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) and Unaccompanied Refugee Minor (URM) programs. This role is responsible for managing routine and emergency care, supervising LPNs and medical support staff, coordinating psychiatric and medical services, and ensuring full compliance with licensing, contract, and accreditation standards. The Medical Coordinator also leads the development of standing medical protocols, facilitates health-related staff training, and ensures continuity of care through strong communication and oversight.

YOUTH EDUCATION & HEALTH PROMOTION

  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups for youth on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, medication compliance, and health.
  • Collaborate with the Food Services Manager to ensure special dietary needs are met.
  • Promote wellness through trauma-informed nursing practices and health education that considers cultural and linguistic needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Michigan.
  • Experience working in a psychiatric, residential, or pediatric setting strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, psychiatric medication, and medical coordination in child welfare settings.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (Red Cross or equivalent) required.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and proof of current vehicle insurance.
  • Must pass all background checks, including ICHAT, FBI fingerprinting, and Central Registry clearance.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

ON-CALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other RNs to provide 24/7 support for medical concerns.
  • Ensure that LPNs have clear emergency protocols and know when to escalate to the on-call RN or emergency services.
  • Remain available by phone and, when needed, return to the facility for urgent situations.
