Job Description: Scope: The Medical Director of Critical Care, Medical Transport, with primary role of supervision of the adult specialty transport medical crews and secondary role of developing and maintaining critical care guidelines, and evaluating actual system performance in adult critical care transport, across Intermountain Flight and Ambulance Services. The Medical Director will report to the Clinical Shared Services Associate Chief Medical Officer. Job Profile: The Medical Director for Critical Care, Medical Transport, is a model clinical leader as evidenced by integrity, passion, and energy; being a champion of Intermountain’s mission, vision, and values. This role will have collaborative accountability for the effective implementation of the operating model, including quality and clinical care models; professional demeanor and presentations; professional proposals and clinical guidelines for the transport teams. Essential Functions Leadership Lead transport clinical crew members in delivery of critical transport in the transport environment through guideline development and maintenance, transport review, and education Collaboration with crew members, the transport medical director team, and Intermountain system-level experts to implement care models that best meet the patient needs and the fundamentals of extraordinary care. Ensure that evidence-based clinical care standards, in partnership with the Clinical Programs, are established and effectively implemented across Flight and Ambulance Services. Lead implementation of clinical best practices and programmatic improvements as supported by the Clinical Programs, Regional Service Lines, and the Clinical Excellence team. Set the culture of team-based care and develop standards and processes to optimize high- functioning clinical care teams. Create an environment that maximizes the engagement and professional satisfaction of transport crew members. Build and foster transport crew member alignment across Flight and Ambulance Services. Collaborate with crew member recruitment, hiring, retention, and professional development. Integrate transport care delivery with the Virtual Hospital functions of TeleHealth, Clinical Command Centers, and Outreach Integrate transport care delivery with sending and receiving hospitals, EMS agencies, and Search and Rescue Teams in the operating region, Align care delivery with Intermountain Operating Model and KPIs Lead quality improvement focused programmatic development in collaboration with the ACMO. Provide leadership, oversight, and support for the development of a culture of high reliability and identify opportunities, build relationships, and execute strategies to drive the performance and measured improvement and/or clinical research of Flight and Ambulance Services. Stewardship Work collaboratively with clinical leaders to optimize management of cost controls and efficiencies. Physician Partnership and Support: Meet regularly with transport medical directors, medical control physicians, sending, and receiving physicians to develop strong relationships and to discuss information that is essential to the successful performance of Flight and Ambulance Services Participate in the Medical Transport and Virtual Hospital Medical Director Councils. Active Medical Licensure Minimum three years of clinical experience in a relevant specialty and experience in leading successful quality improvement or clinical research projects within the clinical setting. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. Progressive healthcare leadership experience. Preferred Qualifications Expertise in designing or implementing clinical research in a critical care environment Demonstrated expertise in teaching through lectures, skill development labs, and full-team simulations Experience in prehospital care Physical Requirements Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information. Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read computer monitors and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
