EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in clinical/pharmacy specialty (Ph.D., PharmD).
  • 5+ years in Medical Affairs experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in SCD preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the US healthcare system and the multidisciplinary approach to address clinical care gaps.
  • Overall, working knowledge of the US health care system and healthcare economics and its impact on medical decision making.
  • Understanding quality measures which inform healthcare decision making in the healthcare system and/or managed care setting is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Customer-oriented approach and ability to work in cross-functional and matrix teams.
  • Proven strategic thinking skills and ability to interpret and implement strategic directions.

Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Medical Director will provide leadership and expertise in Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) contributing to the planning and execution of medical strategies, technical expertise and an in-depth understanding of medicine development and lifecycle to bear on all US Medical SCD-related activities. He/she will be an integral member of the US Medical Affairs and cross-functional US SCD team(s). The Medical Director will support key internal and external medical initiatives such as establishing and maintaining thought leader relationships in the field of SCD, understanding and identifying clinical care gaps, and facilitate the development of customer-focused communication and resources. He/she will provide therapeutic area/product expertise in SCD and understand patients and physicians point of view. He/she will work closely with Global Medical Affairs and cross-functional colleagues to support and execute upon the US Medical Affairs plan.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the development and execution of US medical strategies and tactics in support of the SCD portfolio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues from commercial, field medical, HEOR, digital, US medical information and relevant internal colleagues to enhance and deliver upon US medical plan(s).
  • Supports data generation/analyses and ensure the medical and scientific accuracy of manuscripts and abstracts/posters.
  • Familiarity with the review of promotional and non-promotional materials (i.e. the US review committee (RC)).
  • Within RC, partner with legal, regulatory, and marketing colleagues to ensure compliant, accurate and high-quality content of promotional and non-promotional materials.
  • Serves as a reliable and trusted source of accurate scientific knowledge of the data, disease state, product label, and competitive data for clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with publication and congress planning processes(s).
  • Familiarity with the customer insights process and the importance of customer insights, helping in planning and execution of Advisory Boards (when needed) to gather expert advice on medical planning.
