The Heart and Vascular Center and the Department of Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville (UF COM-J), is seeking a Medical Director of Vascular Surgery at the non-tenure accruing level of Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The Heart and Vascular Center and the Department of Surgery boasts a team of board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and vascular surgeons who work side by side to care for patients with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions at UF Health Jacksonville - a tertiary care teaching hospital, ACS accredited Level 1 Trauma Program and a regional referral center for specialty care. The Heart and Vascular Center and the Department of Surgery are extremely active clinically, academically and educationally. Pioneering innovative approaches to the management of vascular trauma, we are poised for significant growth in vascular care as we expand the elective surgical practice throughout the Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia region. We are seeking a candidate with broad clinical experience in vascular surgery with a particular interest in endovascular therapies. The candidate must be MD or DO, Board Certified in Vascular Surgery with experience in all aspects of the evaluation and treatment of aortic diseases, lower extremity occlusive disease, complex hemodialysis access, and the full spectrum of venous diseases. Major responsibilities include patient care, teaching, and research. Salary and academic appointment are negotiable and the benefits are excellent.

This position will operationally (clinically) report to the Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Center and academically to the Chair of the Department of Surgery at the –UF COM-J. Every faculty member in the department will have a mentoring team assigned to them and participate in the department wide faculty development program.

  • Develop and manage the Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy within the Heart & Vascular Center to provide adequate supervision and evaluation of the clinical work, and implement policies and procedures as needed to maintain and improve services and programs.
  • Overseeing the delivery of high-quality clinical care in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy within the Heart & Vascular Center.
  • Oversight of vascular lab operations within the Heart & Vascular Center, including patient care, quality control, and compliance with standards, including those set by accrediting bodies.
  • Manage, direct, and participate in activities as needed in order to comply with administrative policies and external accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission and other regulations.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of high-quality physicians to complement existing medical staff and meet patient needs.
  • Oversight of the day-to-day vascular operations of the Heart & Vascular Center, including budgeting, resource allocation, and overall leadership and management of the vascular operations, including equipment, vendor relations, and staffing.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and implementing quality improvement programs, including case study reviews, and other activities to continuously enhance patient care and performance vascular services (surgical, endovascular, vascular lab).
  • Collaborate with the Center’s multidisciplinary team, including interventional cardiology and interventional radiology, to deliver high-quality vascular care.
  • Attend departmental and organizational leadership meetings.
  • Work closely with other medical directors, hospital administrators, and community partners to improve vascular care within the healthcare system.
  • Participate directly in patient care, including providing consultations, performing procedures, managing complex cases, and interpreting vascular ultrasound results.
  • Rotate on a regular basis with Vascular Surgery colleagues on the call schedules and be in charge of developing all call schedules.
  • Along with Vascular Surgery colleagues, arrange and facilitate divisional meetings, guest speaker courses and other presentations/classes pertaining to Vascular Surgery in order to ensure the highest quality of education for medical staff.
  • Along with Vascular Surgery colleagues and general surgery program directors along with surgery clerkship director develop and deliver level appropriate Vascular Surgery didactic educational programs, including goals and objectives to medical students and general surgery residents.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth among staff, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals ensuring that they are adequately trained and experienced to provide vascular care.
  • Promote research and education in the field of vascular medicine.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a MD/DO or equivalent and have completed training (integrated vascular surgery residency or general surgery residency followed by vascular surgery fellowship) in Vascular Surgery. Candidate must be board certified and have a minimum of 5 years post residency experience in vascular surgery.
