Unit Summary The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science Position Summary Under supervision and direction the Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the proper collection of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients. The Lab Assistant performs a variety of laboratory tasks, which require learned manual skills rather than a technological training, to assist the trained technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine Scheduled Work Hours days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays This position is temporary until January 2027 1. Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent 2. OSMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate 3. Minimum (3 years) experience is required with demonstrated Order Entry Skills 4. Demonstrated experience in receiving and handling Laboratory Specimens 5. Demonstrated experience and demonstrated proficiency in venous and capillary blood collection and collection of other body fluids as necessary 6. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment 7. Data entry skills preferred
