Description

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist in our Clinical Pharmacokinetics Laboratory, you are responsible for performing laboratory tests that will be used for medical prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and research. You will also perform other tasks such as specimen receipt and processing and will perform tasks related to method validation and quality improvement. Our laboratory specializes in therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology testing as well as related esoteric tests. We utilize techniques such as automated immunoassays, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, radiobioassay, and ELISA. Experience with LC-MS/MS is highly desired but not required. Good communication skills are a must as daily interaction with clinicians should be expected. We seek an independent and proactive individual with a desire to learn new techniques.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Rotate weekend and holiday coverage as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology/medical lab science or in one of the biological, chemical, or physical sciences and completion of a medical laboratory technologist training program required.
  • Master’s degree in Clinical Lab Science preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

  • 4+ years of medical laboratory experience required.
  • Experience Exception: Master’s degree in Clinical Lab Science with 2+ years of experience.
  • 2 years of relevant clinical medical laboratory technician experience may be considered for 1 year of medical technologist experience.
  • Experience in lab equipment operations, medical technology techniques, and execution of specialized lab test procedures.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role.
Responsibilities
  • Execute and oversee test life-cycle activities and aspects within own area (e.g., execution, validation, and reporting of medical lab results; storage, distribution/shipping of specimens and material; tissue governance).
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to discuss test results and provide necessary support and guidance.
  • Participate in research and development activities, staying updated on advancements in laboratory techniques and technologies/procedures.
  • Perform verification and validation planning for new equipment and assays.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, conduct quality control, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Support ongoing lab inventory planning, monitoring, and management.
  • Oversee compliance with safety and infection control protocols within own area.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test procedures, results, and quality control data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
