Job Summary Performs laboratory tests for clinical diagnosis while adhering to guidelines of licensing and regulatory agencies. Works under the supervision of the Section Chief, the direction of the Chief of Pathology and Clinical Laboratories and the Director of Operations. Performs testing in all the areas of the lab such as Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, Serology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Immunology, and Toxicology. Job Specific Duties Performs testing in all the areas of the lab such as Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, Serology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Immunology, and Toxicology. Performs scheduled quality control, preventive maintenance, comparison studies and calibrations on reagents and instruments and maintains required records. Maintains cleanliness of instruments, equipment, and area. Performs daily temperature check and/or record as required for laboratory compliance. Performs weekly inventory, places orders as need it, and storage reagents. Performs and reports laboratory tests accurately to meet required turnaround time. Recognizes, reports to appropriate patient care personnel and properly document critical values within specified timeframes. Assists nurses to obtain samples for glucose test. Assists in the implementation of new instrument and test procedures per CAP standards. Performs, reviews, and submits surveys in timely manner. Consistently completes and submits annual laboratory competency and hospital’s annual curriculum in timely manner. Complies with hospital and laboratory safety regulations; discards waste in the proper container (sharp/no sharp or regular/biohazard). Ensures proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and complies with accrediting agencies’ standards and regulations. Participates in training laboratory procedures and policies to new employees. Rotates on short time notice to any center when coverage required. Demonstrates willingness to participate in the meetings and stays informed on ongoing huddle discussion. Maintain a high standard of punctuality and reliable attendance. Minimum Job Requirements Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License - meets Florida State requirements for licensure and for continuing education for license renewal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree preferred. National Certification is preferred. Provides coverage on assigned rotating weekends as part of lab team. Ability to communicate in English promptly, clearly, and courteously, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interpret and analyze information to perform laboratory procedures. Ability to use computer to enter and access patient data. Able to accurately relay patient test results to appropriate person. Knowledge of and ability to perform laboratory techniques and use laboratory instruments. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and adheres to HIPAA guidelines. Able to work cooperatively and constructively with physicians, patients, families and co-workers. Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's need. Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions. Able and willing to rotate on short time notice to any center when coverage needed.
