Job Description
The successful incumbent will provide patient/family-centered care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. You will be responsible for collaborating and assisting the emergency team with length of stay goals for the department. Frequent tasks include but are not limited to, specimen collection, responding to calls for patients with difficult access, initiating IV’s for patients, prioritizing workload to facilitate patient flow, assisting with patient and visitor wayfinding, patient test order entry and add-ons, monitoring phlebotomy stock and expiry dates, restocking the phlebotomy cart as needed, maintaining a clean and organized workspace (phlebotomy room), and assisting with downtime procedures during loss of systems. Additional duties as assigned include assisting Nursing with vital signs, supporting patient flow through patient assistance and room set-up and training and orientation of new ED Phlebotomists and phlebotomy training for RNs and RPNs in collaboration with the Emergency Department Professional Practice Clinician.

  • Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) and/or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS/SCSLM) certification.
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience as a healthcare provider in an Emergency department
  • Knowledge of laboratory computer systems
  • Demonstrated experience with specimen collection
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families and the healthcare team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience working with the public
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

Additional Information
Status: Permanent Part-time
Hours: Monday to Sunday - All shifts, weekends and holidays (Hours subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $30.490 to $35.160 per hour
