Description SUMMARY OF POSITION The Medical Laboratory Assistant performs routine laboratory testing and procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role works under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor or Medical Laboratory Scientist and ensures accurate, timely, and compliant test results in accordance with regulatory standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Assist in the preparation and processing of patient samples for laboratory testing · Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as applicable and certified · Perform waived and moderate complexity testing in accordance with CLIA guidelines and competency level · Operate, maintain, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and instrumentation · Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of all specimens in accordance with protocols · Follow all laboratory safety standards, infection control guidelines, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA) · Accurately document and enter laboratory data into Labdaq and/or Electronic Health Record (EHR) · Prepare and maintain logs, reports, and documentation related to lab activities · Perform and document quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of results · Recognize abnormal or critical results and report to appropriate clinical staff per protocol · Monitor inventory of lab supplies and notify appropriate personnel when restocking is needed · Assist providers and clinical staff with lab-related needs and workflow coordination · Ensure proper disposal of biohazard materials in accordance with safety guidelines · Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations SKILLS · Strong attention to detail and organizational skills · Knowledge of laboratory procedures, specimen handling, and safety protocols · Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS) · Strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory procedures · Ability to perform basic laboratory testing and quality control procedures · Ability to stand and work in a fast-paced environment for up to 75% of the day Requirements Qualifications Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred: 2 years of clinical laboratory experience Experience in a physician clinic or outpatient setting
