DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to assist the College in fulfilling its mission by facilitating student acquisition of the required knowledge, attitudes, and skills, necessary for success in the student’s chosen career in health sciences. Filling this position will allow us to more rapidly redesign the program to online so we can reach students throughout Iowa and beyond.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field.
  • Master’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as a medical laboratory scientist
  • Experience in Clinical Chemistry required. Experience in the areas of Hematology, Blood Bank and Microbiology preferred.
  • National certification as a medical laboratory scientist.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing, leading or training others.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize appropriate, varied, and innovative classroom/clinical teaching strategies.

INTELLECTUAL/EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to adapt to constant change from one task to another, possibly of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with an unusual, dangerous, or emergency situation, or in situations when working speed and sustained attention are crucial.
  • Must function efficiently under demanding time frames.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with students and co- workers despite the stress of the office work environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provides teaching, supervision and evaluation of student learning experiences.
  • Develops and updates curriculum within the program including redesign of courses.
  • Provides individual advisement and guidance for intellectual and professional development of students.
  • Collaborates with other faculty, preceptors, field faculty, and clinical agencies to provide optimum learning opportunities for students.
  • Participates in scholarly activities (e.g., grant writing, research, college projects, publications, creative teaching strategies).
  • Participates in and seeks out quality improvement opportunities.
  • Contributes to policy and procedure formation for the College and/or program.
  • Participates in the evaluation of program effectiveness. Makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
