LifeSouth Community Blood Centers needs to add Medical Laboratory Scientist to our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) in Gainesville, FL. A standard work week consists of four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8 hour shifts. Varying shifts are available, including rotating or set schedules, and rotating holidays. Available shifts include day shift, evening shift, and night shift. Shift times may be negotiable. We focus on providing the best possible customer service. Flexible schedules, such as, working four (4) 10-hour shifts or five (5) 8-hour shifts per week may be available. No on-call requirements. Minimum Qualifications - National certification as MT/CLS/MLS with ASCP, AAB or AMT, including immunohematology - Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science - Familiarity with blood banking - Clinical laboratory training program or three years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience with a minimum of six months in the transfusion service or Immunohematology Reference Lab - SBB(ASCP) or BB(ASCP) preferred Intangibles With This Position - Opportunity to take advantage of LifeSouth’s accredited SBB training program - Gain experience in an AABB accredited Immunohematology Reference Laboratory - Opportunity to learn and continue to improve skills Responsibilities Include (but not limited to) - Follow established policies and procedures - Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify a supervisor, manager, or director - Document all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications - Exercise professional judgment in evaluation, specimen integrity, results accuracy, and inter-result validity, and take corrective action as necessary This is a full time position.
