SUMMARY:

The Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital is an 18 bed facility located in beautiful, rural Northwestern Ontario. Our catchment area includes the Municipalities of Red Lake and Ear Falls and Wabauskang First Nation. Our Hospital offers 24 hour emergency care, acute & chronic care, obstetrics, oncology, diagnostic services, rehabilitation, and a variety of day clinics. The community of Red Lake is home to approximately 5000 residents. The primary industries include mining, tourism, and forestry. Red Lake is accessible by road or by air. The town is approximately a 3 hour drive from Kenora and a five hour drive from Winnipeg (six hours from Thunder Bay).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician program * * Successful completion of the MLPAO (Medical Laboratory Professionals Association of Ontario) or CSMLS (Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences) certification exam or equivalent
  • Valid Class G driver’s license, with access to vehicle.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, written and verbal, as well as the ability to communicate and function under pressure.

Responsibilities
  1. Blood specimen procurement, including venous & capillary blood samples.
  2. Specimen receiving, accessioning, and dispatching to referral Labs.
  3. Sample preparation for analysis, reagent preparation, and other preparations as required.
  4. Packaging and preparing specimens for transport.
  5. Other responsibilities, as outlined in the position description.
  6. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, as defined by the physical demands analysis in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
