JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist will perform laboratory testing following written policies and procedures ensuring quality laboratory practices in compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using microscope and automatic analyzers to detect abnormalities or diseases, and enter findings into computer.
  • Perform calibrations and quality control accurately and efficiently as required. Able to evaluate calibrations and quality control results to determine the accuracy of patient results.
  • Performs and reports on assigned analytical tests in a timely, efficient and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
  • Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results.
  • Notifies supervisor and takes appropriate action when needed according to predetermined protocols.
  • Performs quality control measures for all testing and ensures results meet established ranges before patient results are released.
  • Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
  • Prepare, reconstitute, and/or dilute reagents, controls, or patient specimens correctly for analysis.
  • Obtain specimens, cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis.
  • Follow CLIA and OSHA regulations at all times.
  • Maintains a strict level of patient confidentiality.
  • Performs phlebotomy skillfully utilizing proper laboratory procedures as outlined by CLSI within minimal discomfort to the patient.
  • Labels and stores blood/body fluids appropriately for subsequent processing.
