JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician to join our pediatric medical team. This position is ideal for a candidate with strong microbiology knowledge, experience in pediatric specimen collection, and the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment. The Lab Tech will be responsible for performing accurate and timely testing to assist in diagnosing and treating pediatric patients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field is required.
  • Certification: ASCP certification preferred (MLS, MLT, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Prior experience in a pediatric or medical lab setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of microbiology and laboratory best practices.
  • Proficiency in laboratory troubleshooting, multitasking, and working under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and families.
Responsibilities
  • Collect and process pediatric specimens, including blood, urine, and other samples.
  • Perform capillary and venous phlebotomy with skill and compassion.
  • Prioritize specimens appropriately (STAT, urgent, routine) to ensure timely processing.
  • Perform laboratory tests, including manual and automated procedures in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and microbiology.
  • Ensure test validity by performing calibrations, quality control checks, and routine maintenance on all analyzers and manual tests.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment as needed to resolve technical issues.
  • Complete regular proficiency testing to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Work efficiently under pressure, multitask, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Send results appropriately and in a timely manner while maintaining accuracy.
  • Utilize Relay Med and work within the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to document and manage test results.
  • Order supplies and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure smooth operations.
  • Follow infection control and safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards.
