We are a team of two family physicians who provide prenatal, postnatal and newborn care to families in Cape Breton. We are looking to expand our services to include more contraceptive and reproductive care for our community.

A Medical Office Assistant does more than just ensure smooth daily operations, they become a vital part of the care journey. Duties

  • Welcome individuals and families to the office.
  • Manage telephone, electronic, and in-person communications professionally.
  • Schedule and coordinate appointments, referrals, tests, procedures, and follow-up.
  • Organize and maintain accurate patient and administrative records, including distributing questionnaires and entering relevant histories into electronic medical records.
  • Confirm valid patient health cards, assist with renewals where applicable, and follow up on billings rejected because of invalid or expired cards.
  • Assist physicians with preparation and submission of MSI billing claims.
  • Monitor office supplies and inventory and restock examination, consultation, and other office rooms as required.
  • Use the Employer’s electronic medical record and other systems securely and accurately.
  • Follow lawful directions and all applicable professional-office, privacy, infection-control, and safety procedures.
  • Act in compliance with Nova Scotia's Personal Health Information Act to ensure patient privacy.
  • Perform other reasonable duties consistent with the Medical Office Assistant.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Medical Office Assistant diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Previous experience in a medical office or health-care setting (preferred)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and EMR systems (preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and professionalism

Prior experience as a medical office assistant in a healthcare setting is an asset, but we will train the right person.

Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
