Description
  A Medical Records Clerk maintains electronic patient files and documents; responds to requests for medical records; records and scans patient documents into patient charts; answers phones; adheres to federal, state and HIPAA laws and requirements; and performs other clerical duties as needed. The right candidate will be a highly motivated person with an eye for details with the ability to get the job done with minimal errors.  Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent * 2 years of medical records office experience preferred * Knowledge of modern office equipment * Interpersonal and human relations skills * Strong organizational skills and office technology skills * Ability to maintain records and files * Highly computer proficient, including working with and combining PDF documents * Exceptional knowledge of HIPAA compliance and client confidentiality laws * Ability to maintain confidentiality * Detail oriented    Job Duties Some various job duties that will be required of a Medical Records Clerk include: * Ensure proper releases and other authorizations are in place for any record request. * Electronically retrieve and respond to medical record requests but may also respond via fax or mail when electronical response not an option. * Scan patient test results and other medical documents as well as records from other agencies into patient charts. * Request and then scan records from other medical providers, agencies, courts, etc. * Communicates with clinicians and supervisors informed of availability of requested records when indicated. * Escalates urgent/legal issues to supervisor (subpoenas, disability and other form completion requests, grievances, audits requests, etc.) * Answers and responds to medical record related phone calls and other inquires.
