JOB SUMMARY:

The Legal Personal Injury Medical Records Clerk is responsible for managing and organizing medical records related to personal injury cases. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all relevant medical documentation is accurately collected, maintained, and readily accessible to support legal teams in case preparation and litigation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or training in medical records management or legal studies is a plus.
Experience: Previous experience in a legal setting, particularly in personal injury law, or experience with medical records management.

SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with legal and medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with case management software.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Prior experience in a personal injury law firm.

Responsibilities
  1. Medical Records Management:
  • Collect, organize, and maintain medical records for personal injury cases.
  • Review and verify the accuracy and completeness of medical records received.
  • Request missing or additional medical records from healthcare providers as needed
  1. Document Preparation:
  • Prepare medical record summaries and chronologies for legal teams.
  • Ensure all medical records are properly indexed, labeled, and filed for easy retrieval.
  • Assist in the preparation of exhibits and evidence for legal proceedings.
  1. Data Entry and Database Management:
  • Input and update medical record information into the case management system.
  • Maintain a detailed and organized electronic database of all medical records.
  1. Communication:
  • Liaise with healthcare providers, clients, and legal teams to obtain necessary medical records and clarify any discrepancies.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding medical records and provide updates to legal teams as needed.
  1. Compliance and Confidentiality:
  • Ensure that all medical records are handled in accordance with HIPAA and other relevant privacy laws.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and case information.
  1. Support Legal Team:
  • Assist attorneys and paralegals in the review and analysis of medical records.
  • Provide support during discovery, deposition preparation, and trial as needed.
  1. Quality Control:
  • Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and address any issues related to the quality or availability of medical records.
