OVERVIEW

The Medical Records Specialist is responsible for managing patient health records with accuracy and confidentiality. This role ensures all medical documentation is properly stored, organized, and maintained in compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies. The position supports clinical and administrative teams by retrieving, updating, and safeguarding patient records for seamless patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology to accurately process records.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.

  • Process requests for release of medical information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • File, scan, and index records into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure timely retrieval and distribution of medical records for providers and staff.
  • Audit medical records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
  • Respond to inquiries from patients, providers, and outside entities regarding records.
  • Protect patient privacy and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Support compliance initiatives, including retention schedules and record destruction policies.
