Job Title: Medical Registrar

QUALIFICATIONS

MRCP or equivalent is desirable
Current Full Irish Medical Council Registration.

EXPERIENCE

3 years post graduate experience.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE

High-level interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) facilitating effective interaction within the work areas.
Strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise work, to work to deadlines and to use own initiative is a mandatory requirement.
Proven ability to work as part of a team is required.
Ability to embrace change in a dynamic environment, willingness to adopt new procedures and undertake further appropriate training as required
Display awareness and appreciation of the service users and the ability to empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect.
Demonstrate sufficient clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice to carry the out duties and responsibilities of the role.
Demonstrate an ability to apply knowledge to best practice standards.
Current ACLS certification

OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables: Medical Registrar
To act under the supervision of the Medical Consultants in the provision of a Medicine service and to support the Consultants in their duties.
To complete the admission process for patients attending the emergency department. This includes but is not limited to: a comprehensive documented hospital admission and plan of care documented in the medical record.
To attend daily ward rounds with the medical team.
Take hand over of patients from previous shift Registrar, so that continuity of care is ensured and immediate decisions are made and orders written.
To review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made at the beginning of the shift and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.
Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.
Order investigations, including radiology, laboratory tests, function tests, etc. as required by patient plan of care, i.e. as directed by Consultant
To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g. injuries, falls, sudden illnesses etc, suffered by patients, visitors or staff.
To contribute to quality improvement, risk management initiatives, clinical audits and policy development so that the overall Internal Medicine Service is of the highest quality and reflective of best practice.
To participate in work related projects at Beacon Hospital as requested to do so by your team lead.
To act and behave professionally and perform one’s duties in a manner that optimises patient care and protects and enhances the reputation of Beacon Hospital. To adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, work hours and overtime.
To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital and acting as a resource for more junior colleagues.
