Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia | Field-based: ~80% field / 20% office | Contract: Fixed-term (maternity cover) The role As a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) in Respiratory & Immunology, you will be a credible scientific partner to the medical and scientific community, enabling non-promotional scientific exchange, generating insights, and supporting medical education and evidence-generation activities in line with global/local Medical Affairs plans and local compliance requirements. This is a maternity leave cover role, ideal for an MSL who thrives in the field, enjoys scientific dialogue, and can work autonomously while partnering closely with cross-functional colleagues. Key accountabilities: Build and develop a strong local network of Key External Experts (KEEs): identify, segment, and engage stakeholders based on scientific interest and affiliations; create long-term, value-based partnerships. Lead high-quality scientific exchange in R&I: discuss disease areas, clinical evidence, and evolving standards of care in a balanced, objective, and compliant manner. Support evidence generation (e.g., Real-World Evidence and research activities): help identify opportunities, support site engagement, and contribute to initiatives aligned with stakeholder needs and Medical Affairs plans. Enable medical education: deliver scientific presentations at meetings and congresses; support development of scientific content (e.g., slide decks, advisory boards, and publication-related activities where applicable). Act as an internal scientific resource: provide medical/scientific knowledge, training, and insights to internal stakeholders; gather, analyze, and share external insights to inform strategy. Work cross-functionally with colleagues in Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory/Patient Safety and Clinical Operations to ensure coordinated, patient-focused execution. Operate with full compliance: complete required trainings/certifications and follow all applicable external regulations and AstraZeneca policies for external interactions and scientific engagement. Essential skills & experience: Advanced degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent). Experience in pharma / healthcare / research environment; Medical Affairs exposure is an advantage. Strong ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, credible dialogue with HCPs and internal partners. Proven relationship-building skills with external medical/scientific stakeholders in a complex clinical ecosystem. Excellent communication and collaboration skills; confident working independently in a field-based role. Fluent Slovenian and English, written and spoken. Valid driving license and willingness to travel within Slovenia. Desirable skills: Prior MSL experience or strong Medical Affairs background. Therapeutic area exposure in Respiratory and/or Immunology (e.g., severe asthma/COPD/biologics, immune-mediated diseases, diagnostics, patient pathways). (Therapy-area familiarity preferred; deep expertise can be built with the right scientific mindset.)
