How you will make an impact
Cabrini Pathology is a multidisciplinary pathology laboratory operating 24/7 and provides a quality service for the rapid diagnosis of disease and subsequent patient monitoring.
The Medical Scientist Grade 1 (Microbiology) performs the essential role of ensuring specimens are processed efficiently and results are reported accurately to clients of Cabrini Pathology.
To be successful in this role, you will be committed to maintaining the highest professional standards and continually develop your skills within our dedicated team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring work within your area and keeping work lists up to date
  • Receiving specimens into the laboratory in a timely and accurate manner and performing data entry as required
  • Processing specimens according to departmental procedures and ensuring that correct sample identification has been completed
  • Performing calibrations and testing, either on analysers or manually, to obtain results for reporting
  • Performing internal and external quality control procedures and taking appropriate action if controls are out of range
  • Interpreting and authorising results to a level consistent with training and taking appropriate action with abnormal/urgent results
  • Participating in training and ongoing education to develop and maintain competency in manual and automated Microbiology techniques consistent with training to assist in the functioning of the department

About you

Along with a high level customer service focus to both internal and external clients, you will also have the following:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or equivalent
  • Membership of AIMS (desirable)
  • Experience in a Microbiology laboratory preferred
  • Understanding of NATA and ISO15189 quality system requirements
  • Knowledge of pathology testing requirements
  • Understanding of quality control and quality assurance programs
  • Capability to troubleshoot errors and acting to resolve the cause of analytical errors
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and a professional approach
  • Ability to work well autonomously or within a team
