• Perform daily quality assurance testing on all equipment used in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
• Account for and process surgical instruments to include complex loaner sets for scheduled and emergent cases.
• Check the expiration date on all sterile supply items, remove all outdated items, and rotate the stock.
• Monitor and track surgical instruments through the use of automated instrument tracking log/system.
• Document shortages of instruments and other sterile supplies according to organizational policy and guidelines.
• Examine items and instruments for damage, deterioration or imperfection.
• Test, flush and clean, laparoscopic instruments’ insulation and suction ports.
• Select the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.
• Compare the control biological tests with the sterilizer’s established parameters to determine appropriateness of sterilization process.
• Supervise the processing, assembling, and sterilizing of intricate surgical trays for the operating room.
