Employee Signature: Date: I.Position Summary: Performs hematologic, chemical, microscopic, morphologic, immunologic and microbiologic testing in a prompt and reliablemanner according to established hospital and departmental policies. May help to set up new methodologies, help developprocedural protocols, and train lab personnel in procedures and the use of instrumentation. Participates in PI activities andsupports the hospital in meeting JCAHO and C.A.P. accreditation standards. Helps other departments as assigned or needed on a“PRN” basis. Responsible to actively participate in quality assurance/performance improvement activities to ensure processesare meeting the intended goal/outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of careprovided in their respective area. II.Position Requirements: A.Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Laboratory Technician. B.Education: An Associates degree (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences or Medical Technology with successfulcompletion of Licensure Examination to meet State, CLIA, and HCFA requirements. B.Experience: Experience gained in fulfilling the clinical requirements to qualify for the registry examination. C.Special qualifications: Good communication skills, detail oriented, computer skills helpful. Ability to work alone or withothers as a team to ensure quality patient care. III.Degree of Supervision Required: Involves guidance and direction by Technologist, supervisor and/or department director.The MLT is expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospitalpolicies and procedures. IV.Ages of Patients Served: This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must beable to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and relatedcriteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed toprovide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience. Responsibilities
The Medical Laboratory Technician performs various laboratory tests including hematologic, chemical, and microbiologic testing. They also participate in quality assurance activities and support the hospital in meeting accreditation standards.
