Description
Medical Technologist I JOB DUTIES:   1. Performs and completes all tests according to departmental procedure manuals within established turnaround times; prioritizes tasks appropriately 2. Handles specimens according to departmental guidelines including unacceptable   specimens and specimens for transport to reference labs. 3. Records and reports testing data according to department guidelines. 4. Performs and records required quality assurance/control data, recognizes outliers and takes corrective action as necessary 5. Performs and reports proficiency tests as assigned 6. Observes and abides by all mandated safety policies in performing duties. 7. Performs instrument troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance as required and/or assigned. 8. Observes reagent and supply inventories, including expiration dates and reports re-order needs to the supervisor or person responsible for supply ordering. 9. Performs phlebotomy duties as needed. 10. Performs specimen triage duties as needed 11. Demonstrates initiative and makes good decisions in situations not covered by policies. 12. Accepts and delivers constructive criticism in a positive manner. 13. Interacts with and assists with training of students in laboratory. 14. Performs additional duties as assigned   QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution required or comparable degree that includes equivalent class completion of the required biology and chemistry disciplines. 2. Documented successful completion of training acceptable for eligibility for certification. 3. ASCP or equivalent certification preferred but not required. 4. Professional communication and presentation skills 5. Multi-tasking, problem-solving, and time management skills 6. Proficient in computer skills 7. Attention to detail and quality 8. Ability to analyze and understand information 9. Possess a strong work ethic
Responsibilities
The Medical Technologist performs laboratory tests, handles specimens, and maintains quality control data according to departmental guidelines. They also assist with instrument maintenance, phlebotomy, and training students within the laboratory.
