QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, clinical laboratory science or similar degree in chemistry or biology with required semester hours and one year of training in a clinical laboratory as per CLIA and NJ DOH regulations

Preferred:

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification or eligible
  • American Medical Technologist (AMT) or eligible
  • Current experience in chemistry, hematology, microbiology or blood bank
  • Entry-level candidates should have at least 1-2 years of clinical internship or lab rotation experience

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift working, 3-11pm, shift may vary
  • Must be able to cover every other weekend and Holidays as needed
  • Per Diem (PD)

Responsibilities
  • Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluids
  • The Medical Technologist process and receives samples of blood, urine and body fluids
  • Performs and interprets clinical laboratory test, obtaining data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
  • Analyzes blood cells by counting and identifying cells, using microscopic techniques and procedures
  • Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests
  • Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements and performs quality control; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • The Medical Technologist function independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained in the computer and/or log book
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
  • Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
