JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
The duties of this position includes but is not limited to accurate, precise, and timely patient test results for the diagnosis and management of human illness. Position utilizes automation and computerization, and manual methods. Responsible for quality control and instrument operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Position handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid and other body fluids. Specimens may be contaminated with infectious diseases including HIV and other blood borne pathogens.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree (Required)ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology - American Society for Clinical Pathology
ADDITIONAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Four year Bachelor of Science Degree. Registered by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. AMT Certification is considered equivalent to ASCP. Or completion of all required course work for Bachelor’s degree and completion of ASCP Certification . Superior customer service skills. Experience in an automated clinical laboratory

Independently performs complex analysis of all body fluids and tissues once training and competency assessment completed. Determines reliability of all analytic data before it can be released as a patient measurement for diagnosis and treatment. Interpret information often based on judgmental decisions from technical procedures and instruments. Requires knowledge of medical correlation of data; interrelationships between different laboratory parameters; physiologic factors affecting date; and the effect of numerous medications and medical treatment on data.

Performs quality control checks on each procedure, reagents, stains, equipment, etc. Is involved in the laboratory Quality Assurance program to evaluate quality of service to hospital patients.

Continuing Education and Competencies. Remains current in field. Trains new employees and students. Maintains competencies, mandatory education requirements (ACE).

Provides diagnostic information to physicians and nursing personnel regarding interpretation of patient results determined by laboratory analysis. Performs further investigative evaluations according to established protocols.
